The Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship equips individuals with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to support organisational functions through efficient administration, process improvement and professional service delivery.
Apprentices will work across teams or departments, contributing to operations, resolving issues, maintaining systems, improving services and supporting management decisions.

End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Gateway Requirements:

  • Completion of the on-programme phase (minimum duration met)
  • Achievement of Level 2 English and Maths (if required)
  • Employer and training provider review confirming readiness

EPA Components:

  1. Knowledge Test– multiple-choice/online test assessing breadth of knowledge
  2. Project Presentation– apprentice presents a work-based improvement project they have carried out
  3. Portfolio-Based Interview– interview underpinned by the portfolio of evidence demonstrating skills, behaviours and impact

Grading:

Fail / Pass / Distinction.

Entry Requirements

  • Employed in or entering a business administration role
  • Employer commitment to support the apprentice’s development (mentor, meaningful tasks, opportunities)
  • Level 2 English and Maths (or commitment to achieve during programme)
  • Motivation to develop professionally, manage workload, drive improvement and work effectively in a business context

Career Progression & Outcomes

On successful completion apprentices may move into roles such as:

  • Business Administrator
  • Team Administrator
  • Departmental Support Officer
  • Senior Administrator
    They will be well-positioned to progress to supervisory roles, or move into specialised administrative or operational roles within the organisation.

Funding Information

  • Funding band: up to £5,000
  • Levy-paying employers: The full cost can be funded through your apprenticeship levy.
  • Non-levy employers: You contribute 5% of the training cost, and the government funds 95%.
  • Small businesses (under 50 employees): If the apprentice is 16–21, the government funds 100% of the training cost with £0 employer contribution.
  • Additional support may be available for apprentices with learning difficulties or care-leaver status.

Delivery Model (ESTAR Approach)

  • Blended learning: interactive online modules, live virtual sessions and group workshops
  • Workplace-based tasksaligned with the apprentice’s job role
  • Monthly review meetingsbetween apprentice, employer mentor and ESTAR tutor
  • Portfolio buildthroughout the apprenticeship showing applied learning, outcomes and reflection
  • Project / improvement activity: a work-based project to demonstrate improvement and applied skills
  • Typical on-programme period: 12-18 months, followed by End-Point Assessment readiness
