The Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship develops high-performing managers capable of leading teams, driving operational performance, improving processes, and delivering strategic objectives.
This programme gives apprentices the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to manage people, budgets and projects while ensuring operational excellence, continuous improvement, and long-term organisational success.

It is suitable for individuals already in a supervisory, team leader or lower-management role who are ready to step into full operational responsibility.

End-Point Assessment (EPA)

At gateway, the apprentice must have:

  • Completed their portfolio
  • Achieved Level 2 English & Maths (if required)
  • Evidence of consistent performance in role

EPA Components:

  1. Project Report & Presentation– a work-based project demonstrating operational improvement
  2. Professional Discussion– underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Grading:

Pass or Distinction.

Entry Requirements

  • A suitable job role with operational responsibility
  • Employer support for the apprenticeship
  • Level 2 English and Maths (or willingness to achieve during programme)
  • A strong commitment to leadership development

Apprentices also become eligible to join professional management bodies (e.g., associate or full membership depending on experience).

Funding Information

  • Funding band:£9,000
  • Levy-paying employers: The full cost can be funded through your apprenticeship levy.
  • Non-levy employers: You contribute 5% of the training cost, and the government funds 95%.
  • Small businesses (under 50 employees): If the apprentice is 16–21, the government funds 100% of the training cost with £0 employer contribution.

Additional support may be available for apprentices with learning difficulties or care-leaver status.

  • Monthly 1:1 coaching sessionswith a specialist leadership tutor
  • Employer-led projectstied to real operational challenges
  • Quarterly reviewswith employer, apprentice and mentor

  • Regular progress trackingfor both employer and apprentice
  • Bi-weekly virtual classroom sessions
  • In-person workplace visitsevery 6–8 weeks

Total on-programme duration: 24 months (minimum 12).
EPA follows once the apprentice is ready.
