This Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship is designed for individuals who manage teams, projects or operational activities within a business. Apprentices develop the leadership, communication and managerial skills required to guide teams, set goals, support development, manage performance, resolve issues and contribute to business success.

Team leaders are found in organisations of all sizes across private, public and third sectors — in operational, project, administrative or technical contexts.

End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Gateway Requirements:

  • English & Maths achieved to required level
  • Portfolio of evidence completed
  • Employer confirms readiness of apprentice

EPA Components:

  1. Presentation with Questions– apprentice delivers a presentation on a chosen topic and answers questions
  2. Professional Discussion Underpinned by Portfolio– structured discussion with independent assessor supported by the apprentice’s portfolio

Grading: Fail / Pass / Distinction

Entry Requirements

  • Role with responsibility for people, activity or process tasks
  • Employer able to provide managed team activities and mentor support
  • Motivated to develop as a leader and manage others
  • Basic English & Maths (or commitment to achieve required level)

Career Progression

On completion apprentices may move into:

Funding Information (Standardised ESTAR Format)

Funding Band

This apprenticeship is funded up to the maximum band set by the Department for Education: £5,000.

Funding Information

  • Levy-paying employers:The full cost can be funded through your apprenticeship levy.
  • Non-levy employers:You contribute 5% of the training cost, and the government funds 95%.
  • Small businesses (under 50 employees):If the apprentice is 16–21, the government funds 100% of the training cost with £0 employer contribution.
  • Additional supportmay be available for apprentices with learning difficulties or care-leaver status.
  • There are no hidden costs.

Delivery Model (ESTAR Approach)

  • Blended learning delivery: live workshops, online modules and workplace tasks
  • Monthly coaching sessions with an experienced leadership tutor
  • Employer-mentored activities aligned to real managerial responsibilities
  • Portfolio of evidence developed throughout the programme
  • Duration typically 15 months on-programme then 3 months EPA
  • Full preparation for Gateway and end-point assessment
